Offbeat Meghalaya

Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati and head off to Shillong and Local Exploration on arrival

• On the way to Shillong, stop at Umiam Lake, a serene reservoir surrounded by green hills, en route to Shillong. Alternatively, you can go to Laitlum Grand Canyons, a dramatic viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of the Khasi hills. In the evening, stroll through Police Bazaar for local food and shopping. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 2: Shillong to Nongkhnum Island

• Explore the tranquil surroundings of Nongkhnum, including the breathtaking Weinia Falls and Langshiang Falls. Enjoy some quiet time with your favourite book by the river beaches or hop on for an adventurous boat ride. Camp or stay at a local guesthouse near Nongkhnum.

Day 3: Nongkhnum to Mawsynram

•  Upon arrival, visit the Mawjymbuin Cave, famous for its stalagmite formations. Explore the lush green landscapes and rain-fed streams that define the region. Overnight in a guesthouse or eco-lodge in Mawsynram.

Day 4: Mawsynram to Mawlyngbna

• Here, you will be guided to the Fossil Park before heading out to river canoeing and kayaking. Take a short hike to Umkhakoi Lake for stunning views and indulge in swimming, kayaking and waterfall rappelling in the pristine water bodies. Overnight in a homestay or eco-camp in Mawlyngbna.

Day 5: Mawlyngbna to Cherrapunjee (Sohra)

• Visit Lyngksiar falls, Prut Falls, explore the Garden of Caves and take a trip to the very famous Living Root Bridges of Meghalaya. If time permits, you can visit some other famous (relatively crowded) attractions before heading to your homestay. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 6: Sohra to Guwahati

• On arrival in Guwahati, drop off at the airport for onward journey.
